Weather conditions or emergency situations may cause the cancellation of programs offered through the Continuing Education Department for programs held during the evenings and on Saturday mornings.

For Elementary & Secondary program cancellations due to inclement weather or emergency situations, staff, parents and students will need to refer to the York Catholic District School Board website at www.ycdsb.ca

Daytime and Evening Adult ESL Programs will be cancelled if inclement weather forces the cancellation of YCDSB school buses during the day.

CKFM 99.9 FM
CFTF 680 AM
CHUM 1050 AM

Also on news television stations such as CP24.

Please note that if an impending weather alert is issued for the weekend, cancellations will be communicated to staff by the Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.  The teaching staff will do their best to contact parents in order to notify them that the Saturday class will be cancelled.

Your typical username and password will both be you OEN number.

Elementary Online Registration Procedure

A student’s OEN number is required when registering your child(ren). The OEN is a student identification number that is assigned by the Ministry of Education to elementary and secondary students across the province. The number, which is unique to every student, is used as the key identifier on a student’s school records, and will follow the student through his or her elementary and secondary education.
You will find the 9-digit student OEN number printed on the report card. Have your student’s OEN (Ontario Education Number) and Credit card information ready to enter.

Non-YCDSB secondary students will be required to upload a copy of their Birth Certificate or Report Card in a PDF format if registering for either the International Languages or Skills Development program.

Non-YCDSB elementary students will be required to upload a copy of their Birth Certificate, Canadian Passport or Permanent Resident card in a PDF format if registering for either the International Languages or Skills Development programs.  Report cards will not be accepted as form documentation for verification of status.

Continuous registration applies to the International Languages program only. Parents may continue to register their child(ren) after classes have started, provided there is space and teacher availability.

Yes. You will receive an email confirmation from the Continuing Education Dept., after you have completed and submitted your registration form and your payment has successfully been processed.

Yes. You will receive a notification via email that your registration was successfully submitted. We will only contact you if the course/program is cancelled or moved to another location. Please take your child(ren) to the location you have chosen on the first day of class.

Yes, VISA students may also register for any Elementary or Secondary program but a program fee will apply. Please refer to our webpage for the current fees.

No, unfortunately your child must be currently in JK.  Students registering in JK Summer International Languages program must have completed their first year of JK.  Follow the Registration Procedures for Elementary.

Yes. Either a non-refundable consumable fee of $20.00 per student or a program fee will apply. Due to the number of programs we offer, we recommend that you view the most current fees and how they apply to you by selecting the program you are interested in on our website. Fee paying programs are only refundable before the class starts, minus a $25 administration fee.

NO. Although YCDSB students will be given first priority. We accept Non-YCDSB students, however a fee may apply based on the program.

YCDSB makes every effort to ensure all scheduled classes run. However if a class/program is cancelled due to low enrolment or lack of teacher availability, then you will be notified via email from the Continuing Education Dept., informing you of the cancellation and your payment will be refunded.

No. Transportation is NOT provided by the YCDSB. Parents/Guardians are responsible for dropping off and picking up their child(ren) as these programs are offered outside of regular school hours.

If there are 23 students registered for the new language, then we will look into offering that language, provided we have a teacher available.

• Any Grades 9-12 student that resides in Ontario
• Grade 8 students (Semester 1 or at Summer school) who take Learning Strategies or International Languages as a Grade 9 Elective.

No. You will receive an acceptance email if we have not cancelled the course and if there is space to accommodate you into the program

Final report cards will be issued on the last day of class. Report cards must be personally picked up at school. After the program ends, all unclaimed report cards can be picked up at the CEC, Continuing Education Dept., 320 Bloomington Road W, Aurora.

All students MUST pick up their report cards on the final day of classes. Unclaimed report cards will not be mailed. All final marks will be electronically submitted for YCDSB students.

Final report cards for non-YCDSB students will be emailed to their home school. Final marks for YCDSB students will be uploaded to their transcripts and a copy of the report card will be sent to their home school.
For Summer School: Graduating students are responsible for submitting their final report card to the College/University.

Prompt, daily attendance is expected. Students are expected to attend from the first day of classes. Students who incur more than 3 absences face the risk of being withdrawn. Students with excessive lates can be withdrawn.

It is the responsibility of the registrants to check the Continuing Education webpage frequently and especially before the opening day of a course to see whether the course has been cancelled or moved to a new site. If your course status changes, you will receive an email with instructions to accept or decline the change..

Every effort will be made to communicate any class cancellations. Should classes be cancelled due to inclement weather or an emergency of some type; staff, students, parents and adults will need to refer to the YCDSB website or call the Continuing Education Department at 416-221-5051 extension 13609.

Visit the Con-Ed Registration site and select the course of your choice. If you are a current YCDSB student you will need to login using the OEN as the Username & Password. Your OEN number is printed on the top of all your Ontario Report cards.

If you are not a YCDSB student, just select your course and click on View Registration Form. You will need to have a Credit Counselling summary available to be uploaded with your registration.

eLearn provides an alternative method of delivering curriculum that meets the learning needs of students. Having said that, eLearn does not suit everyone’s learning style. If you would like to get a better idea of whether eLearn is a good fit for you,  complete the online survey.

While there are no face-to-face requirements for your course – everything will be conducted online via Desire2Learn / Brightspace (the YCDSB elearning management system), there will be weekly scheduled video conference tutorials meant to provide students with support and direct contact with teachers. Note the video conference tutorials will be scheduled at times of the day that accommodate the greatest number of students. There will also be make-up sessions for those who miss.

No. Aside from weekly video conference tutorials, which will be set up at times that best accommodate the needs of both students and teachers, you do not have to login at a specific time. This is an asynchronous approach to learning, so as long as you are meeting your assignment deadlines and participate in video conference tutorials, then you are good to go.

It is not possible to take more than 1 full credit eLearn course or 2 half credit courses.

Students will indicate their intention to drop the course to their eLearn teacher by completing and submitting the drop request form.

Yes. The YCDSB Virtual School eLearn courses are open to all students in Ontario. You will need to upload a current Credit Counselling summary or Transcript in order to register.

If you are a mature student (20+) and resident of Ontario, who has not completed your OSSD and would like to earn credits towards to your high school diploma, you are eligible to register and take an eLearn course

A. Yes. As long as you have Internet access and are able to commit 3 – 5 hours a day to completing your work, you can continue in your course. Having said that, it is important that ensure yourself the learning environment and opportunity while vacation. Remember, it is your responsibility to ensure your ability to complete your work in a timely fashion while on vacation.

B. Since this is an asynchronous model of learning (not happening at the same time), you are able to take the eLearn class and complete the assignments at your convenience. Only requirements on your time is that you complete the assignments as indicated by the teacher and that you are able to participate in video conferences, which will be scheduled at times that will work with you and the teacher.

While there will be no face-to-face final exam, student’s will be required to complete some sort of culminating assessment. What that looks like will vary from course to course. The teacher will outline all assessment expectations at the start of the course.

If you require any accommodations, it is important that you let your teacher know at the beginning of the course. In addition to that, we would ask you to scan and send a copy of your IEP to your teacher, so that we can put any accommodations you need in place. Please do not hesitate to discuss your learning needs with your teacher.

There is no cost for residents of Ontario. If you are a VISA student you will be prompted to pay for the course as you work through the registration process.

No. Desire2Learn / Brightspace is compatible with both Macs and PCs. What’s more important is to always use the most recent version of your browser. The most up-to-date versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer all work with Desire2Learn.

None. All content will be provided to you online through the D2L learning environment. In those cases where you are expected to read a novel (i.e. English), the expectation is you select a book that is accessible to you at your local library or bookstore.

A. It will vary. Video conference tutorials will be scheduled differently for each course. Every effort will be made to schedule the tutorials at a time that best accommodates the greatest number of students. Please consult with your teacher for the schedule.

B. Your teacher will be setting up make sessions for those who miss the scheduled video conference or will contact you to bring you up to date and ensure that you complete all required assignments connected to the video tutorial.

It is suggested that students use Google Chrome or Safari.

A. Once a student has registered for their eLearn course, a username and password will be sent to them. If you are a current YCDSB student, you will be able to access your D2L course with your day school username and password.

B. Con-Ed Registration site:  Forgot Password .  A temporary password will be sent to the email address in the account.

• Saturday school registration opens in August and typically runs from mid- September to June.
• Summer school registration opens the end of May and typically runs from July into the first week of August.
• Night School Semester 2 registration opens in August and typically runs from mid-February to June.

You are allowed to be away for three days before being withdrawn from the program. You are responsible for your absences. Due to the nature of our programs, unexcused absences will lead to withdrawal from our program.

The email you receive is the only course we have for you. If you wish to switch, you must delete your first confirmation and re-apply for the course again. Please note that you will lose your place in the sequence.

Acceptance emails will be sent out if there is a spot for you in the course starting on the second week of June.

Acceptance into a course is dependent on how many of our current YCDSB students are taking the course and how popular the course is.

A text book deposit is required for all credit courses (cheque only).  The deposit cheque will be returned to the student on the last day of class if the book(s) are returned.  A $25 fee will be charged for any Returned Cheque.

Yes. Visa students may register for a full credit course; however they will be required to pay by certified cheque a fee of $2200.00 per course. External or NON YCDSB Visa students must have appropriate documentation.

Everyone is welcomed to enroll into our program providing they have the necessary course requirements regardless of faith.

Unfortunately, the Continuing Education Department only issues report cards, NOT diplomas.

No. The Continuing Education Department will only issue a transcript, however it is your responsibility to ensure that the Continuing Education Program marks are recorded correctly on your transcript. For a Diploma, you must contact your previous secondary school for information and procedures as “we” (the Continuing Education Department) do not issue diplomas at all. To obtain this information you can contact your previous secondary school.

No. In order to obtain a credit you must attend class according to the schedule. This schedule cannot be altered.

A number of registration options are available. You may register ONLINE during the dates specified on our webpage, or drop by in person at the Continuing Education Department at board office in Aurora.

If you are registering for the first time, then you must create a New Account by completing the information in the General Public box.

If you have registered within the past year with us, then you can login as a student and input your Username and Password to continue.

Yes. The language assessment will help to determine what program is best for you and place you in the right class.

You can have a free language assessment if you qualify in the following manner;

Your first language is not English and/or you were born outside of Canada and you are also one of the following:

• A Canadian Citizen (naturalized)
• A permanent resident
• A convention refugee
• A refugee claimant
• An approved provincial nominee
• A work permit holder with a letter from CIC confirming initial approval for permanent residence.
• A work permit holder with “Initial Approval of PR” on the permit (or similar wording)
• A foreign domestic worker admitted under the Live-in-Caregiver Program
