Learning strategies Open Level (GLS1OU)
Course Offered: Fall/Winter OR Summer
This course helps students
become independent learners and increases their personal management skills, both in school and in their personal lives.
This course will help students;
develop and apply a range of strategies tro improve their learning
develop thier literacy, numeracy, communication and planning skills
complete a career portfolio
increase their confidence, motivatop and ability to learn.
This course will count as one of the 30 compulsory credits required to graduate from High School.
LIT 1OR - Reading
This 2 week course is offered to Grade 8, 9 & 10 graduates. This course will give students the opportunity to develop the literacy skills in reading that are evaluated by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. All students in Ontario must demonstrate these skills as a requirement for graduation. Students in this course will;
read a variety of informational, narrative and graphic texts
gain knowledge of the structure & organizational elements of various texts
use a varietyof strategies to understand unfamiliar & technical vocabulary and language used figuratively
gain knowledge in grammatical sturctures & punctuation
LIT 1OW - Writing
This 2 week course is offered to Grade 8, 9 & 10 graduates. This course will give students the opp ortunity to develop the literacy skills in writing that are evaluated by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. All students in Ontario must demonstrate these skills as a requirement for graduation. Students in this course will;
produce a variety of forms of writing, including summaries, informaiton paragraphs, opinion pieces and news reports
partake in the weriting process by re-writing, organizing, drafting, revising and editing
learn to develop a main idea, provide supporting details, organize & link ideas and information, use appropriate tone, use correct grammar 7 punctuation & use correct spelling.
MAT01R or MAT02R
Success in secondary school courses depends largely on studentâ€™s literacy and numeracy, skills.Â The grade 9 Mathematics course builds upon the Grade 8 strands, while providing growth in new directions.Â Students in this course will cover the grade 9 strands.
The course will be divided into 2 â€“ 2 week sessions
MAT01R will run during Session 1
MAR02R will run during Session 2
Students are encouraged to take both sessions, although the material is such that students can take Session 1 (MAT01R)Â or Session 2 (MAT02R)
