2017 SUMMER SCHOOL
Math Preparation Non Credit - (MAT O1R and/or MAR O2R)
Grades 8, 9 & 10 YCDSB graduates ONLY

Currently the CE department offers secondary Credit courses that are Ministry approved and hence count towards your OSSD requirements. All inquires should be made to the CE Dept.)


Credit & Non Credit Courses
     Session 1: July 7 to July 19/17     or     Session 2: July 20 to August 1/17
YCDSB STUDENTS (Gr. 8, 9 & 10)
Attention Grade 8 Students: Due to NEW Ministry Regulations, students in Grade 8, who register for the Non-Credit Literacy or Numeracy Summer School course must now get approval from their Elementary Principal prior to registering on-line.

  PROGRAM DESCRIPTION


MAT01R or MAT02R
Success in secondary school courses depends largely on student’s literacy and numeracy, skills.  The grade 9 Mathematics course builds upon the Grade 8 strands, while providing growth in new directions.  Students in this course will cover the grade 9 strands.

The course will be divided into 2 – 2 week sessions
MAT01R will run during Session 1
MAR02R will run during Session 2

Students are encouraged to take both sessions, although the material is such that students can take Session 1 (MAT01R)  or Session 2 (MAT02R)


Part 1 - 2 weeks
1.  Integers - Adding and Subtracting
2.  Fractions - Finding the lowest common multiple, Improper, proper, mixed, Adding and Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing
3. Number Sense - Order of operations, Ratios, percents, decimals
4. Graphing - Bar Graphs, Scatter Plots
5. Algebraic Modelling - Solving equations using variables
6. Geometry - Classify Triangles, Classify Polygons

Part 2 - 2 weeks
  1. 1. Integers - Adding and Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing
  2. 2. Fractions - Adding and Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing
  3. 3. Number Sense - Order of operations, Powers and Exponents, Polynomials
  4. 4. Graphing- Linear Relationships
  5. 5. Algebraic Modeling, Solving equations using variables
  6. 6. Geometry - Area, Perimeter and Circumference, Surface area and volume
